Spot a Florence Uffizi line

Walk to the Uffizi Gallery and photograph the queue at the entrance or the colonnade itself. Even from outside, the colonnade between the Arno and the Palazzo Vecchio is iconic.

Spot a Florentine pasta dish

Find a Tuscan pasta dish (pappardelle al cinghiale with wild boar, pici cacio e pepe, ribollita as a starter) on a trattoria table. Photograph the plate.

Spot a fritole or frittelle

Find a tray of fritole (Venetian doughnut balls with cream or raisins) in a bakery window or on a café tray. Photograph the powdery balls.

Spot a fritti misti or sarde in saor

Find a Venetian classic plate (fritto misto of seafood, sarde in saor sweet-and-sour sardines) in a trattoria or bacaro. Photograph the plate.

Spot a gelato cone

Find a gelato cone with at least two flavours in someone's hand or stacked behind glass at a gelateria (Giolitti, San Crispino, Old Bridge). Photograph it before it melts.

Spot a gondola

Find a gondola moored on a canal or in motion, the long black boat with the iron prow. Photograph it.

Spot a leather shop

Find a Florence leather shop with jackets, bags or wallets in the window (the San Lorenzo market and the Oltrarno have dozens). Photograph the leather.

Spot a Milan aperitivo Negroni

Find a Negroni (red, with orange peel) on a Brera or Navigli aperitivo table. Photograph the glass.

Spot a Milan Aperol Spritz

Find a bright-orange Aperol Spritz on a café table during the daily aperitivo hour. Photograph the orange.

Spot a Milan caffè in tiny cup

Find an espresso served in a small porcelain cup with a sugar packet on a bar counter. The Milan stand-up bar. Photograph the bar.

Spot a Milan cotoletta

Find a cotoletta alla milanese (breaded veal cutlet, similar to Wiener Schnitzel but with the bone). Photograph the cutlet.

Find a Quadrilatero della Moda boutique window (Versace, Armani, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana). Photograph the window display.

Find a fashion-week poster, banner or shop-window announcement (especially February and September). Photograph the poster.

Walk Porta Venezia and find a Stile Liberty (Italian Art Nouveau) facade (Casa Galimberti, Casa Campanini). Photograph the lace iron and floral tiles.

Find a red M sign at any Milan Metro entrance. Photograph the sign.

Find a plate of risotto alla milanese (saffron-yellow) on a restaurant table or menu. Photograph the yellow.

Find the Stazione Centrale di Milano, the 1931 Art Deco/Fascist-era station. Photograph the immense facade or the iron-and-glass platforms.

Find a Milan tram on its route. Bonus for the vintage ATM Class 1928 wooden trams still on tracks 1, 2 and 3. Photograph one passing.

Find a Vespa parked on a Milanese street. Photograph the chrome.

Find a Bialetti moka pot in a shop window, on a café counter or behind a glass display. The eight-sided aluminium silhouette. Photograph it.

Find a Murano glass shop with hand-blown vases, chandeliers, fish or millefiori pendants. Photograph the colours.

Take a vaporetto to Murano and find a glass-blowing workshop with the furnace and glassblowers at work. Photograph the molten glass.

Spot a nasone fountain

Find a nasone (the iron drinking fountains scattered through Rome with a long curved spout). Photograph someone drinking from it or the water arc.

Walk to the Naviglio Grande or Naviglio Pavese and find the canal with the cafés and apartments lining it. Photograph the canal.
