Find a Don Juan or Carmen reference (statues, opera-house posters, restaurant signs). Both are Sevillan legends. Photograph the reference.
Spot a fan (abanico)
Find a Spanish abanico (paper or wooden fan) in a souvenir shop or in someone's hand. Photograph the design.
Spot a Feria de Abril dress reference
In April find Feria de Abril dresses, casetas or the Feria fairgrounds. Outside the season find a Feria souvenir or flamenco dress shop. Photograph the reference.
Spot a flamenco dress (traje de gitana)
Find a flamenco dress in a shop window (Triana has dedicated shops). Photograph the ruffled dress.
Spot a flamenco poster
Find a flamenco show poster (Corral de la Morería, Casa Patas, any tablao). The dancer in the red dress is iconic. Photograph the poster.
Spot a Gaudí dragon detail
Find any other Gaudí dragon detail in the city: the Casa Vicens, the Finca Güell entrance gate, the Park Güell roof. Photograph the dragon work.
Spot a Gràcia balcony with senyera
Walk into the Gràcia neighbourhood and find a small square (Plaça del Sol, Plaça de la Virreina) with a Catalan flag on a balcony. Photograph the local atmosphere.
Spot a Gran Vía neon
Find a vintage neon cinema or theatre sign on Gran Vía (the Schweppes sign, a musical marquee). Photograph it lit up after dusk for bonus points.
Spot a Holy Week (Semana Santa) reference
In Holy Week find a procession or nazareno robe. Outside the season find a Holy Week shop, image or memorial plaque. Photograph the reference.
Spot a horse-drawn carriage
Find a horse-drawn coche de caballos waiting near the cathedral or Plaza de España. Photograph the horses.
Spot a human castle (castellers)
During festivals (especially Sant Jordi, Mercè) you can see castellers building human towers. Otherwise find a photo, mural or statue of a casteller pyramid. Photograph the reference.
Spot a jamón leg
Find a whole jamón ibérico or serrano leg hanging in a bar, deli or tapas joint window, hoof and all. Photograph the leg with the carving stand below.
Spot a Madrid balcony with flowers
Find a Madrid balcony with geraniums, climbing plants or laundry hanging out (most common in La Latina and Lavapiés). Photograph the cascade.
Spot a Madrid donkey on a sign
The Spanish donkey shows up on EI Toro emblem, ManoLo signs, leather shops. Find a donkey or bull silhouette on any sign or souvenir. Photograph it.
Spot a Madrid Metro M
Find a red-rimmed M on a blue background at any Madrid Metro entrance. Photograph the sign.
Spot a Madrid street tile (azulejo)
Find a hand-painted ceramic street-name tile on a corner building (most common in the old centre). Photograph the painted name.
Spot a Mercado de San Miguel stall
Walk into Mercado de San Miguel just west of Plaza Mayor. Find a stall with tapas, pinchos or vermouth on tap. Photograph the iron-and-glass interior.
Spot a paella pan
Find a paella pan at a Barcelona restaurant or in a shop window. (Paella is technically Valencian but Barcelona menus love it.) Photograph the pan.
Spot a Park Güell mosaic bench
In Park Güell's upper terrace find the trencadis mosaic bench (the long undulating mosaic bench). Photograph the colours.
Spot a Picasso reference
Find a Picasso reference in Barcelona: the Picasso Museum on Montcada, a poster, a souvenir mural. Photograph the reference.
Spot a Plaza Mayor archway
Walk into Plaza Mayor through one of its nine archways (Arco de Cuchilleros is the most famous). Photograph the archway with the plaza visible beyond.
