Halloween Scavenger Hunt
A playful Halloween scavenger hunt for kids, teens and families. Works at home with decorations and costumes, or outside around the neighborhood hunting for decorated houses. Photo and video challenges with pumpkins, ghosts and bad costumes. Not too scary, just cosy and creepy.
Challenges (18)
Kick-off with a mask
First team photo with everyone in costume or masked. It can be a paper mask, a sheet over your head or a real costume.
Pumpkin pose
Find a pumpkin (real, paper, rubber or hand-drawn) and take a photo where someone copies the pumpkin's expression.
Spiderweb hunt
Spot a spiderweb decoration (or a real spiderweb outside) and take a photo of the team looking tangled up in it.
Ghost pose
The whole team poses as ghosts: arms up, mouths open, white sheets or jackets over their heads. Photo in the spookiest pose you can manage.
Witch on a broom
Someone grabs a broom and pretends to fly on it. Photo of the take-off moment, with a cape or black hat as a bonus.
Candy hunt
Gather as much candy as you can (ask for it, buy it, find it at home) and take a photo with all the candy in one pile. The more, the better.
The spookiest house nearby
Find the house with the most Halloween decorations nearby and take a team photo with it. From a distance is fine if the residents are not up for visitors.
Skeleton pose
Team poses as a skeleton: arms by your sides, mouths open, eyes wide. Or find a skeleton decoration and copy its pose exactly.
Bat hunt
Find a bat (decoration, sticker, drawn on a window, cut from paper). Take a photo with the team copying its pose.
Trick-or-treat snapshot
Take a photo of the moment you ring the bell for trick-or-treat (or when you open the door for others). The more surprised, the better.
Creepiest snack
Make something edible that looks creepy: sausage fingers, olive eyeballs, pasta snakes, a bloody ketchup snack. Photo of the result.
Make a jack-o-lantern
Carve or draw a face on a pumpkin, orange or piece of paper. Take a photo of the jack-o-lantern, with a candle if you can.
Ghost video
Record a short video of the team making the creepiest sounds you can: screaming, moaning, cackling like a witch. Ten seconds max.
Worst or funniest costume
Photo of the least successful or funniest costume of the night. A bin-bag Batman, a sheet ghost, pyjamas with ketchup blood: anything counts.
Best face paint
The most professionally face-painted person of the night. Take a close-up photo of the face.
Final photo of the Halloween crew
Closing challenge: a big team photo with everyone in full Halloween mode. Pumpkins, costumes, candy bags, all in it. Trick or treat!
Quiz: Halloween colours
Which two colours are classically associated with Halloween?
Answers: orange and black / black and orange / orange, black / black, orange
[Customize!] The spooky house
A task or question about a specific Halloween element in your area. (Organizers: come up with a question or photo task, e.g. "Photo by the house at number 12 with the pumpkins on the porch" or "What is the name of the neighbour who puts up the most decorations every year?".)
