Frequently asked questions
The duration is up to the organizer when they set up the adventure. As a guideline, a focused day across the Octagon, Railway Station, Otago University and Baldwin Street ticks off most of the easy items, and stretching across a weekend (with Larnach Castle and the albatross colony) lets a determined group complete all 30.
Each of the 30 items is a camera challenge. When you spot the thing, take a photo and submit it; the bingo card tracks progress. Play solo, with friends or split into teams and race to tick off the most items.
Some items (Larnach Castle, Royal Albatross Centre) require a peninsula drive. Sweep the Octagon for the easy items, Otago University for the academic items, Speight's on Rattray Street for the brewery and Baldwin Street for the climb.
The Octagon, Otago University clocktower, Railway Station and Speight's brewery hit the most items in a walking loop. Add a drive to Baldwin Street and (optionally) the Otago Peninsula for Larnach Castle.
Yes. Kids love climbing Baldwin Street, spotting Cadbury, the Railway Station gingerbread and the Octagon statues; adults enjoy hunting Speight's, vintage Scottish heritage and Otago University buildings. No alcohol stops are required.
